Betty Jane: A Living Example of the Eye Bank Mission

Betty Jane is a bilateral (both eyes) corneal recipient who has remained dedicated to giving back to the organization and community that provided her a precious gift—her sight.

Decades of Dedication

Since 1985, Betty Jane has enthusiastically volunteered at the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, working three days-a-week, six hours-a-day and inspiring those around her to work even harder and more effectively to further the missions of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, the Lions, and the University of Minnesota. She also enthusiastically promotes eye donation throughout the community at large.

“Betty Jane is a priceless partner of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank.”

Personal Rewards, Public Awards

Betty Jane was presented with the Gift of Sight Award by the Eye Bank Association of America, an annual honor awarded to a volunteer who does exceptional work in support of eye donation. Betty has earned the Vision Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award and has been recognized as a WCCO Radio Good Neighbor. The University of Minnesota has repeatedly recognized her volunteer efforts. And, Betty Jane has earned four Minnesota Lions Helen Keller Awards from the Lions for her significant contributions in the field of sight, her care and concern for those less fortunate, and her exemplary leadership skills. Very few have received multiple Helen Keller awards, and only one other person has garnered a fourth.
