Funeral Directors

Funeral directors have been an important part of facilitating the gift of sight through eye donation for more than 30 years! Trained Minnesota funeral directors began removing eyes for the eye bank in 1974, and many funeral directors in greater Minnesota continue to serve as volunteer eye recovery technicians.

Statutes require funeral directors and donation agencies to work together to carry out donation prior to embalming. Eye, tissue, and organ donation agencies collaborate to make shared donation cases go as smoothly and as quickly as possible.

We are deeply grateful to the funeral directors who partner with us to serve donors and donor families who wish to give the gift of sight. Thank you for three decades of support.

Education
The eye bank offers education and CEUs at MFDA district meetings and the AFDA convention. Custom training at a funeral home site is possible for large groups.
