Medical Directors

An eye bank’s medical director ensures that the eye bank operates in compliance with Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) Medical Standards and other regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Associate medical directors assist the medical director in the administrative responsibilities.

The medical director’s daily responsibilities include the following:

  • Overseeing all medical aspects of eye bank operations;
  • Providing direction to implement innovative therapeutic or diagnostic technologies in eye banking;
  • Assisting with the creation and implementation of medical policies and procedures;
  • Monitoring the quality assurance program;
  • Approving all policies and procedures annually;
  • Representing the eye bank at national meetings and to international organizations;
  • Participating in technical staff training; and
  • Verifying the competency of all Certified Eye Bank Technicians.

The Minnesota Lions Eye Bank is proud to be affiliated with these ophthalmic surgeons and thanks them for their efforts in supporting eye donation and preserving eyesight.
